When NICU Care Ends, The Financial Crisis Begins

What Comes Next

Bringing a baby home from the NICU can begin an entirely new financial journey. Parents may be facing medical expenses, reduced income, travel costs, therapies, equipment, specialized care, and everyday family needs, while also trying to understand where financial help may exist and how to begin asking for it.

The Funding Project’s NICU Financial Advocacy Initiative gives families a clear place to begin. Our NICU Funding Guide, Companion Workbook, Tammy’s Proven 13-Step Process, and personalized guidance help parents explore possible funding sources, organize what they need, prepare stronger requests, and take practical next steps.

You Don't Have To Figure This Out Alone.

NICU Resources Designed To Work Together

Families leaving the NICU are often handed an overwhelming amount of information, but very little of it explains how to navigate the financial side of what comes next.

The Funding Project's NICU Funding Guide and Companion Workbook were created to give parents a clearer place to begin. Together, they help families understand possible funding opportunities, organize their child's needs, prepare stronger requests, keep track of important information, and move through Tammy's Proven 13-Step Process one step at a time.

These resources are designed to be used together, but families can return to either one whenever new expenses, services, equipment needs, therapies, or other financial questions arise.

NICU Funding Guide

NICU Funding Guide

The NICU Funding Guide helps parents understand where financial help may exist and how to begin looking for it.

It walks families through possible funding sources, financial advocacy strategies, how to prepare to ask for help, what information may be needed, and how to approach the process in a more organized and informed way.

The goal is not simply to give families a list of programs. It is to help parents understand how to identify the right opportunities for their child and how to take the next step.

Companion Workbook

Companion Workbook

The Companion Workbook helps parents turn the information in the Guide into action.

Families can use it to organize their child's needs, documents, costs, funding research, contacts, applications, follow-ups, priorities, and next steps in one place.

It follows Tammy's Proven 13-Step Process so parents do not have to create their own system while already managing the demands of caring for their child.

The Workbook is designed to be returned to again and again as needs change and new funding questions arise.

Expanding Access For Spanish-Speaking Families

Families should be able to understand financial advocacy resources in the language they are most comfortable using.

The Funding Project is expanding our NICU Family Resource Library with Spanish-language versions of the NICU Funding Guide and Companion Workbook to help parents understand possible funding options, organize their child's needs, prepare stronger requests, and take practical next steps.

Our goal is to make The Funding Project's NICU financial advocacy resources more accessible to Spanish-speaking families across the country.

¿Prefiere Hablar En Lugar De Leer?

If reading a guide or workbook feels difficult, families will still be able to reach out for help understanding where to begin, how to use the resources, and what practical next steps may make sense for their family.

Si prefiere hablar en español o necesita ayuda para entender por dónde comenzar, comuníquese con The Funding Project.

Helping Hospitals And Organizations Reach More Families

These Spanish-language resources are also being developed for hospitals, NICU teams, health systems, patient advocacy organizations, nonprofits, and community partners working to better serve Spanish-speaking families.

Making financial advocacy information more accessible means helping more families know where to begin, what questions to ask, and what steps they can take next.
